One year ago we launched this Community as a resource for Coriolis Flow and Density Measurement.  At the time of this writing, membership is over 1300 strong, and there have been over 900 entries, whether comments, blogs, posts, videos posted.  Successful?  Absolutely.  Is there room for improvement?  Definitely! 

At this time I have to resign my post as Chief Blogger, and hand over the reigns to Neal Ingram, Micro Motion's new President.  I'll be moving my keyboard from Boulder CO to Chanhassen MN where I'll be joining the Rosemount team.  I wish this community well, and am sure it will get stronger and better as time goes ahead.  One of my favorite quotes in recent times was from an AT&T line technician, who predicted the end of the hard wired phone.  He said, and I paraphrase, "No one knows as much as all of us".  Never underestimate the power of a network.  The strength and value of this community is up to those that join, and participate.  I wish you all well.

Many of you may be familiar with the Emerson’s Human Centered Design(HCD) Initiative.  HCD is an important discipline at Micro Motion and really supports our continuous improvement approach to doing business.  Through the years we’ve been very close to our users, giving us an appreciation for the need to deliver products and services that provide valuable information while improving efficiency.  The evolution of our Smart Meter Verification is a great example of this.
 
Micro Motion released in-situ Structural Integrity Meter Verification more than two years ago in response to our users’ need to periodically verify the integrity of the measurement. Since this release we have collected feedback from users and non-users, to really understand the tasks, applications and use cases where Meter Verification could be applied.  We studied the preferred methods of operation for users, the need for results presentation and storage, and the various user interfaces that would be employed.  Invaluable customer feedback was used to systematically upgrade and improve this product and allowed us to release Smart Meter Verification – the next generation of this technology.  Check it out - we think the simplicity and speed of the tool makes it useful for many reasons.
 
We’d really value your input. To get a sense of Smart Meter Verification, here’s a short video.  We’ve also started a forum discussion on the various needs for measurement verification – please contribute your thoughts. This open dialogue is the essence of our goals for this community:  a means to listen, share, understand, and improve.

2009 was a very challenging year for all of us around the world.  We experienced broad economic declines not seen since the 1930's.  Through this time, however, we have continued to look into the future.  We have a number of very exciting new product launches scheduled for this year.  Together we are working to solve challenging measurement needs around new applications and regulatory requirements.  As we continue to work with new users around the world, we have greatly expanded our training capabilities and facilities, to ensure that users of our products can realize their full value.

And we continue to improve our online presence to bring users together, and to allow us all to learn and improve faster.  Web 2.0 capabilities offer us tremendous opportunities.  This community, which became a reality in November, now has over 600 members.  Check out the great array of online technology video demos that were taken at the recent Emerson Global Users Exchange held in Dallas, Texas.  Learn how Micro Motion Meter Verification work.  Watch Coriolis working in entrained gas conditions.  See the only 2-wire Coriolis in action.   Check out density and viscosity meters.  See Coriolis in a multiphase flow system.  Check these out, and tell us what you think. One thing that you can expect to see is continued work in this area with a goal of a highly valued online experience.

A challenge for us, that I know some of you have experienced, is our ability to consistenly deliver our products to your expectations.  This was most evident in the latter part of 2009.  I want you all to know that we are very aware of our need to improve, and many people across our organization are working hard to improve our performance.  I am confident that you will see these improvements in the weeks ahead.
